The Church of the Good Shepherd (Anglican)
A member of the Anglican Communion
The Church of the Good Shepherd was established as a rural parish in the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh in 1872. In 1891, the church moved to its current location in Hazelwood on the corner of Second and Johnston Avenues. In today’s world, Hazelwood is no longer a rural neighborhood, but is an Urban area located conveniently within minutes of Downtown Pittsburgh, the Southside, Squirrel Hill, The Church’s congregation is a delightful mixture of people from a variety of backgrounds, and denominations. A number of the people are native to Hazelwood, a number of them travel from the close-by neighborhoods, while others come from farther away. The congregation is racially and ethnically mixed, kind of what you would imagine heaven would be. “…a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes peoples, and tongues, standing before the Lamb…(Rev. 7:9) In November, 2008, the Parish voted by a large margin to realign with the Anglican Church, and we are members of the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh – Anglican. If you are interested in worshipping in an urban parish that loves Jesus, and is in the midst of renewal; and, if you want a church that will provide opportunities for you to use your godly gifts for ministry, and if you want to become a “beacon of light” for Jesus, not only in this church and community, but in His Kingdom, then Good Shepherd is the right church for you.. We welcome anyone who is seeking a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and who wants to be a“doer of the word”. (James 1:22)
