The Church of the Good Shepherd
A member of the Anglican Communion
The Church of the Good Shepehrd was established as a parish in the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh in 1872. The church is located in the Hazelwood section of the city, on the corner of Second and Johnston Avenues. The worship is liturgical and Anglo-Catholic (incense, bells and vestments are used in the service). The service is spiritual and alive. The message is based on the Holy Scripture, and the Good News of Jesus Christ is preached. Music is a blend of traditional Episcopal music, praise and gospel music and contemporary Christian music. Our instruments are a Moehler pipe organ and a piano. We have a small exciting choir, which is seeking more voices. If you are interested in worshipping in an urban parish that is in the process of growing, rebuilding, and becoming a "beacon of light" in the community, this is the church for you. The Church of the Good Shepherd is open to people of all races, ethnic backgrounds, nationalitites and denominations. We welcome anyone who is seeking a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, whether it is a new relationship, or one that is being renewed. The church is an historic landmark in Pittsburgh, and is adorned with beautiful stained glass windows, a carved wooden altar, heavily beamed ceilings, a stone baptismal font, a wonderful bronze tabernacle, marvelous woodwork, a brass eagle lectern, and a brass and wood-railed pulpit. We also have some of the nicest people you will ever meet. We invite you to come and worship with us.
